Celebrating Brandy’s breakthrough musical role.

Happy 42nd birthday to the legendary singer/actress Brandy! As we celebrate Black History Month, let’s take a moment to show some appreciation to Brandy on her birthday. All of us Brandy fans have a lot to celebrate because tomorrow  Friday,  February 12th,  Rodgers and Hammerstein’s  Cinderella (1997) will begin streaming on Disney+.

In 1997, Brandy (at just 18 years old)  made history as the first black actress to play Cinderella on screen. When this film originally aired  on ABC, as part of The Wonderful World of Disney series, it garnered 60 million views, making it the highest rated television musical in years. The multi-racial star-studded cast also included Whitney Houston as the Fairy Godmother and Whoopi Goldberg as the queen. Brandy certainly held her own alongside her iconic co-stars. She effortlessly captured the essence of Cinderella’s kind and humble nature. It’s hard to believe this Emmy award-winning film was Brandy’s movie debut.
